Why not upload the PDF to a cloud redactor?

Many online tools send your file to a server (sometimes to a third-party AI API) to detect PII. SafeToAI extracts text and detects PII in your browser. On the default path we do not receive the document contents.

Step-by-step

  1. Use a text-based PDF (you can select/copy text). Image-only scans need OCR later.

  3. Review highlighted hits. Disable false positives; add missed exact strings.
  4. Prefer consistent pseudonyms so ChatGPT can still track parties.
  5. Export Markdown from the workspace, then paste with your analysis prompt.

Prompt pattern after redaction

You are assisting with a redacted legal excerpt.
Tokens like [PERSON_01] and [ORG_02] are stable pseudonyms.
Do not invent real names. Summarize obligations, deadlines, and risks.
Flag any place where missing identity would change the advice.

FAQ

Does ChatGPT see the original PDF?
Only if you upload or paste it. SafeToAI’s job is to produce a redacted Markdown version you choose to share.
Will detection catch every name?
No. Person-name detection is heuristic. Always review. Add manual spans for unusual spellings or matter-specific codes.
What about scanned PDFs?
Not supported yet. Convert via OCR elsewhere first, or wait for browser OCR.
